I am adding this article to the "Before Anything Else" section because it is the last step in a complete expatriation. In 2022, before leaving, I had sold or given away almost everything : flat, car, furniture, crockery, clothes, etc. But I had kept a few boxes of items in a storage unit "just in case". A remnant of syllogomania, no doubt...

When I returned home for Christmas with my family this year, I decided to empty the storage unit.

Why ?
It costs me €58/month, which since August 2022 amounts to €2,320.
Since 2022, I haven’t had any use for any of the items in this storage unit.

So we set about emptying the storage unit and moving everything to my mother’s garage. But of course, it’s out of the question to simply move this storage and leave everything in the garage.

Although it was very painful emotionally to see some of these items go, I took almost everything to a garage sale last Sunday and sold them all, mostly well below their value. The result of the operation : €260 recovered. This is obviously laughable compared to the amount spent on storing them for three years.

It was painful but necessary. The remaining items will find a small place in the garage and the books in a bookcase on the almost unused second floor of the family home in Thuir.

Here are a few examples of the prices at the clearance sale :
 A new professional camera stand : €5
 A great two-person Canadian tent, used once : €10
A large batch of old posters : €10. Not even the price of the cases they came in.
My PlayStation 3 console with all the games : €15...
etc.
