This is a true story!

A few mats away from me this morning, a gentleman of about 70, who I have no doubt is a very good player, was giving advice to a younger friend, who was clearly a beginner.

First, he asked him to hit a few balls with a fairly open iron, which the pseudo-beginner did quite well, hitting the balls high and straight. The "teacher" commented: "Yes, that’s not bad, but your left hand isn’t in the right position. You also need to raise your right elbow more in this direction, and I think your weight isn’t distributed evenly enough on your front leg. Then, when you swing down, try to follow this trajectory with your club."
_
The student does as he is told and completely misses the ball, which skims the ground 4 metres in front of him.

Comments from the "teacher": "Ah yes, but now you’re thinking too much. Be more spontaneous."
