Marrakech the red city

I don’t know much about Morocco, but I love Marrakech. It is an exuberant city, especially obviously in the Medina, around the Jemaa El Fna square.

It’s a colourful, noisy, sometimes dirty atmosphere but I find that compared to my last visit 10 years ago, the city is much cleaner. There are many sweepers and cleaners

Jemaa El Fna Square is still as lively, with the essential snake charmers, music and dance groups, fruit juice sellers and souvenirs.

But it is mainly in the souks around that the show is located. At certain times, it is impossible to circulate on foot as the crowd is dense, especially on weekends in the early evening.

I came to Marrakech this year mainly to play golf. I stayed 14 days at Riad Zanouba, a very friendly small hotel with an exceptional welcome and service (thank you Ismail).

I tried to play golf 1 day out of 2, which was not always easy, because one of the golf courses I wanted to play was closed, and I gave up some golf courses really above my budget. However, I had bought the Golf O Max app for the occasion, which offers 25% discounts on the greenfees of 6 golf courses around the city. But golf remains rather expensive in Morocco. I had taken my equipment so as not to have to rent it but the price of the green fees remains quite high at the base. I have variously appreciated these golf courses in Marrakech.

But I once again appreciated the city and its inhabitants, even if some are real tricksters. You have to listen to them but not always believe them.

And I enjoyed excellent tagines and couscous, always at very reasonable prices, even if we remain quite clearly above the prices of Thai street food.
